At Last!

I have made no secret of my admiration for my old friend, Gerald McRaney, and his acting ability. He has worked steadily ever since he first came to Hollywood (not long after Cecil B. DeMille filmed The Squaw Man in a barn near the Cahuenga Pass and started the film industry as we know it today) and has a body of work that is almost unparalleled. If you look at his page on IMDb, your thumb will get tired scrolling down through his credits, and he richly deserves his reputation as one of the best in the industry. And at last the industry has recognized his talent: he has been nominated for an Emmy for his work as Dr. K. on the NBC series This Is Us.

Kudos to a talented man and good friend!

I have a lifelong friend who works as an assistant set decorator in the indy film industry. She does not tolerate watching poor or mediocre television. She was discussing her recent discovery and admiration of This Is Us, and that let us to a further discussion of how overlooked Mr. McRaney’s talent has been lo these many decades. He is truly a fine actor, and it befuddles me how such a craftsman with skill and longevity has consistently flown under the radar of awards-givers. Have you seen his work in This Is Us? It’s riveting. Truly. I’ve shown the clip about “something reasonably close to lemonade” to people and they have openly wept. I usually don’t care about award shows, but I really hope he wins.

That is indeed great to hear! I have always admired Mack’s body of work and this nomination is way overdue. Both you and Gerald McRaney are excellent actors. The proof alone is in your series, Simon & Simon. Best wishes for Mack, I hope he winds the award!

Definitely a long overdue honor. I must confess I don’t watch any of the current tv shows or movies so I haven’t seen his recent work with the rare exception of the watching the recent Dolly Parton holiday tv movies of the past few years in which he plays a pastor and of course he was great. As for his most recent/current show I did see a promo for the show with him in the clip so did make a mental note I need to check out the scenes with him online.

I have been watching the 70’s/early 80’s Incredible Hulk show and finding several episodes he was in (playing different characters in each). I think I’m now up to four or five episodes with him. I’ll have to find out if there are anymore as they are also great. Especially the one where he plays a cop who is also a serial murderer/rapist—very much against type and shows his great range. It is always fun to catch him in other shows like the Rockford Files to.

Now if someone would come up with a great script for two senior guys maybe you can be coaxed out of retirement so you two could work again. I have an idea, there are legends that Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid did’n’t really die in Bolivia so maybe a story about what would have happened if they had made it into senior age! You can take my idea and write a script….;-)

I agree that this acknowledgement is long overdue. Love Mac’s work and look forward to seeing his acceptance speech. I hope he gets invited to the Emmy’s so we can see in his tuxedo with beautiful Delta. 😉
